QADIYA is an independent, noncommercial community project: an archive of Palestine’s history, built for the cause and open to everyone.
This is an early pilot. Its records were gathered with AI help from cited sources and are still being checked, so don’t rely on them yet, and tell us if something is wrong.
We’re looking for people and organisations to build it with us: historians, archivists, translators, designers, developers, and partners who can support the work.
Born in al-Birwa, near Acre, on 13 March 1941. During the Nakba he and some of his family took refuge in Lebanon; returning secretly in 1949 with his grandfather, he found the village razed. After his first collection, Birds without Wings (1960), he published twenty-five collections of poetry and eleven prose works, translated into more than twenty languages. He drafted the Declaration of Independence adopted in Algiers in 1988 and was elected to the PLO Executive Committee, from which he resigned in 1993 after the Oslo Accords. He died in Houston on 9 August 2008 and is buried in Ramallah.
