Sija

A board game for two, known in English as nine men’s morris: three nested squares joined by lines give twenty-four points, on which each player places nine pieces, small stones or fruit pits, trying to line up three in a row and so take one of the other’s. Boards cut in stone from the Roman and Byzantine periods have been found in Palestine, and the game is still played.
