Born in Jerusalem in 1945, she studied fine arts in Beirut, ceramics in Florence and Islamic art and architecture at Oxford. Her work, mostly ceramic and sculpted painting, draws on Palestinian landscapes, people and old family photographs. A founder of the New Vision artists’ group in the first Intifada and of the al-Wasiti Art Center in Jerusalem, she taught Islamic art at Birzeit University, where she led the committee that set up the Tawfiq Canaan amulet collection.
