QADIYA is an independent, noncommercial community project: an archive of Palestine’s history, built for the cause and open to everyone.
This is an early pilot. Its records were gathered with AI help from cited sources and are still being checked, so don’t rely on them yet, and tell us if something is wrong.
We’re looking for people and organisations to build it with us: historians, archivists, translators, designers, developers, and partners who can support the work.
Born in Nazareth on 7 May 1929, he led a student demonstration against British policy in 1946, joined the National Liberation League and then the Israel Communist Party, and was twice imprisoned for organising protests in the 1950s. A poet and editor of the literary journal al-Jadid, he was elected to the Knesset in 1973 and mayor of Nazareth in 1975, and from both posts played a leading part in the strike of Land Day, 30 March 1976. He died in Jericho on 5 July 1994, having gone to welcome Yasser Arafat back from exile.
