QADIYA is an independent, noncommercial community project: an archive of Palestine’s history, built for the cause and open to everyone.
This is an early pilot. Its records were gathered with AI help from cited sources and are still being checked, so don’t rely on them yet, and tell us if something is wrong.
We’re looking for people and organisations to build it with us: historians, archivists, translators, designers, developers, and partners who can support the work.
Born in Tarshiha in the Galilee in 1955 to a Catholic family that moved to Haifa in 1957, he played the oud from the age of five, studied violin in Jerusalem and Arabic literature and music at Tel Aviv University, and went on to graduate studies at the Manhattan School of Music and Columbia University. In New York he formed the Near Eastern Music Ensemble in 1982 and the Qantara ensemble in 1995, and received a National Heritage Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts in 1994.
