An early pilot · A community project
QADIYA is an independent, noncommercial community project: an archive of Palestine’s history, built for the cause and open to everyone.
This is an early pilot. Its records were gathered with AI help from cited sources and are still being checked, so don’t rely on them yet, and tell us if something is wrong.
We’re looking for people and organisations to build it with us: historians, archivists, translators, designers, developers, and partners who can support the work.
Person · Head of Gaza’s municipal council, 1906 to the British occupation
1868–1930
Born in 1868 into a wealthy family of Gaza’s Shuja‘iyya quarter, he became a merchant and one of the largest landowners in Palestine. Appointed in 1906 chairman of Gaza’s municipal council, a post he held for more than ten years until the British occupation, he built the town hall, the Amiri school and the municipal hospital and, the historian Aref al-Aref wrote, brought the first modern plough to Gaza’s farms in 1911. He died in Gaza in October 1930.
