An early pilot · A community project
QADIYA is an independent, noncommercial community project: an archive of Palestine’s history, built for the cause and open to everyone.
This is an early pilot. Its records were gathered with AI help from cited sources and are still being checked, so don’t rely on them yet, and tell us if something is wrong.
We’re looking for people and organisations to build it with us: historians, archivists, translators, designers, developers, and partners who can support the work.
Person · Cartoonist; the creator of Handhala
1936–1987
Born in the village of al-Shajara, in the district of Tiberias, he fled with his family to southern Lebanon when Israeli forces occupied the village in 1948, and grew up in a tent in the Ayn al-Hilwa camp near Saida. His drawings were first published in al-Hurriyya in 1962, and in 1969 he introduced Handhala, a ten-year-old child who will not grow up until he returns to his homeland. He was assassinated in London, where he died on 29 August 1987.
