An early pilot · A community project
QADIYA is an independent, noncommercial community project: an archive of Palestine’s history, built for the cause and open to everyone.
This is an early pilot. Its records were gathered with AI help from cited sources and are still being checked, so don’t rely on them yet, and tell us if something is wrong.
We’re looking for people and organisations to build it with us: historians, archivists, translators, designers, developers, and partners who can support the work.
Person · Mayor of Hebron from 1940
1900–1980
Born in Hebron in 1900, he studied at al-Azhar and returned to teach and preach at the Ibrahimi Mosque, represented Hebron at the seventh Palestinian National Congress in 1928, and qualified in law at the Jerusalem Law Classes in 1931. The British detained him at Sarafand from July to November 1936, after the general strike was declared, and appointed him mayor of Hebron on 28 October 1940, a post he held until April 1948. After the Nakba he was a leading opponent of the Arab Higher Committee and of the All-Palestine government proclaimed in Gaza. He died in Hebron on 29 May 1980.
