QADIYA is an independent, noncommercial community project: an archive of Palestine’s history, built for the cause and open to everyone.
This is an early pilot. Its records were gathered with AI help from cited sources and are still being checked, so don’t rely on them yet, and tell us if something is wrong.
We’re looking for people and organisations to build it with us: historians, archivists, translators, designers, developers, and partners who can support the work.
Born in Nazareth in 1950 and raised there, he left school early to work in car repair, and in 1970 went to Belgium to study theatre and television directing at INSAS in Brussels, where he has lived since. His first feature, Fertile Memory (1980), was followed by Wedding in Galilee (1986), which won the International Critics’ Prize at Cannes in 1987, by Canticle of the Stones (1990) and by Route 181 (2003, with Eyal Sivan).
