Born in Jerusalem in 1950 and raised in Jericho, she fled with her family to Jordan in the war of 1967 and to Beirut after 1970, where she studied philosophy and psychology and worked as a reporter and cultural editor. After 1982 she lived in Damascus, Tunis and Amman, and returned to Palestine in 1994, founding the Ministry of Culture’s periodical Dafater Thaqafiyya and running its cinema department. Her novels include The Sundial (1979) and The Balcony over the Fakihani (1983).
