An early pilot · A community project
QADIYA is an independent, noncommercial community project: an archive of Palestine’s history, built for the cause and open to everyone.
This is an early pilot. Its records were gathered with AI help from cited sources and are still being checked, so don’t rely on them yet, and tell us if something is wrong.
We’re looking for people and organisations to build it with us: historians, archivists, translators, designers, developers, and partners who can support the work.

1893–1940
Born in Bethlehem in 1893, the daughter of a Lutheran pastor, she studied Arabic literature at the American University of Beirut and began taking photographs in 1913, when her father gave her a camera, photographing Bethlehem, Tiberias, Nazareth, Haifa and Caesarea. In the 1920s she opened a studio in her home in Bethlehem, photographing women, children and weddings, and in the 1930s became a professional known for colouring her prints. She died in Bethlehem on 27 April 1940.
