Born in Acre in 1963 to parents from al-Rameh, she learned classical Arabic music and poetry from her father Elias, an instrument maker and music teacher. In 1982 she joined the Jerusalem group Sabreen and was its lead singer for twenty years, playing the oud and the qanun, before beginning a solo career in 2002 between Bern and Paris.
