An early pilot · A community project
QADIYA is an independent, noncommercial community project: an archive of Palestine’s history, built for the cause and open to everyone.
This is an early pilot. Its records were gathered with AI help from cited sources and are still being checked, so don’t rely on them yet, and tell us if something is wrong.
We’re looking for people and organisations to build it with us: historians, archivists, translators, designers, developers, and partners who can support the work.
Person · Founder of the newspaper Filastin in Jaffa, 1911
1878–1950
Born in Jaffa in 1878 to an Orthodox Christian family in the oil and soap trade, he studied at the American University of Beirut and founded the newspaper Filastin in Jaffa in 1911. The Ottoman authorities closed it in 1913 and exiled him to Anatolia in 1916; he reissued it in 1921 and made it a daily in 1930. He took part in founding Jaffa’s Muslim-Christian Association against the Balfour Declaration, and founded the Palestine Free Party in 1927. He died in Beirut on 29 June 1950.
