Awni Abd al-Hadi
عوني عبد الهادي
1889–1970
Born in Nablus in 1889, he studied law in Istanbul and Paris, where in 1911 he was a founder of the secret Young Arab Society, and was adviser and secretary to Faisal in Paris, London and Damascus. On 2 August 1932 he signed the announcement that reconstituted the Independence Party in Jerusalem. When the general strike was proclaimed in April 1936 he became secretary of the Arab Higher Committee, chaired by Haj Amin al-Husseini, and after the Peel report of 1937 argued the case against partition in Baghdad and Geneva. He died in Cairo on 15 March 1970.
