Ahmad Dahbour

born 1946

Born in Haifa in 1946, he was driven out with his family to Syria in the Nakba of 1948 and grew up in Homs and Damascus. He was a reporter and literary editor for Fateh’s newspaper, political editor of Palestinian broadcasting in Syria and an editor of the magazines Lotus and al-Bayader, and wrote songs for the group al-Ashiqin. Returning to Palestine in 1994, he became a director-general at the Ministry of Culture; his collections include The Story of the Palestinian Boy (1971) and Twenty-One Seas (1981), and he won the Palestine Award for Poetry in 1998.
