Abu Ali Mustafa
أبو علي مصطفى
1938–2001
Born Mustafa al-Zabri in Arraba, in the Jenin district, on 14 May 1938, to a family of modest means, he moved to Amman in 1950 and worked from a young age; he joined the Arab Nationalist Movement in 1955 and in December 1967 took part in founding the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP). Elected its secretary-general in July 2000, succeeding George Habash, he opposed the Oslo Accords and played a prominent part in leading the Second Intifada. Israeli helicopters killed him in his office in al-Bireh on 27 August 2001.
