The Palestinian Hikaye

الحكاية الفلسطينية

The Hikaye is a narrative tradition of Palestinian women: fictitious tales, evolved over the centuries, that take up the concerns of society and the family. It is usually told at home on winter evenings, to small groups of women and children, in the Palestinian dialect of the countryside (fallahi) or of the towns (madani). UNESCO proclaimed it in 2005 and inscribed it in 2008.
