Hand millstones (tahouna, jaarousha)

الطاحونة والجاروشة

The hand mill of the Palestinian household: two round basalt stones, the upper turned by a wooden handle, with an opening at its centre for the grain. Almost every village house had one for its own flour. In the village of Faqqu‘a, in the Jenin region, such millstones are still being made.
