Arabic calligraphy

الخط العربي

The art of writing the twenty-eight letters of the Arabic alphabet, cursive and from right to left, with reed pens and inks of honey, soot and saffron, or with markers and spray paint; carried into carving in marble and wood, embroidery and metal. It is learnt informally and in schools and apprenticeships, by people of every age. UNESCO inscribed it in 2021 on the joint nomination of sixteen Arab states, the State of Palestine among them.
