On 3 April 2009 the President of the UN Human Rights Council established an independent fact-finding mission, headed by Justice Richard Goldstone, to investigate all violations of international human rights law and international humanitarian law that might have been committed in the context of the military operations conducted in Gaza between 27 December 2008 and 18 January 2009. Its report, A/HRC/12/48, is dated 25 September 2009.
